A Brief Look At Feng Shui 3 Element Of Fire

The element of fire in Feng Shui is associated with excitement, passion and expansion; it is a warming element that motivates and stimulates. The colour red is mostly associated with the fire element, but also bright oranges, yellows and purples are included and used within home décor.
Take a look at our ideas for decorating with the aesthetics of Feng Shui and how to add the energy of the fire element into your interiors. Remember that, as with all of the elements, you should bring them in subtly or they can have a negative effect. Too much fire can be chaotic and create a barrier to rest, relaxation and sleep.

Natural Light Sources – Taking advantage of natural light is better for the flow of fire energy than using artificial lights. During the daytime, allow the light to flood in to ‘active’ spaces by opening up blinds or curtains. If you need some cover or privacy then choose lightweight curtains such as voiles hung from unobtrusive net rails, which will let enough light in while providing a screen to the outdoors.
Candles are another commonly used décor piece and light source in the Feng Shui home – choose them in colours of red, orange or purple. When choosing light fittings for dark spaces, look for those in fire colours and facing upwards as opposed to down; this satisfies the natural, upward flow of the fire energy.
Paint Colours – Using paint to update a home and improve the flow of positive energy is cheap and an easy project. Think about where you need a boost of passion or motivation and consider painting a feature wall in a warm red, pink, orange or purple hue. The richer and brighter the colour the better – with gloss or eggshell finishes giving a boost as the energy is reflected and bounced around the home.
Reflective Surfaces – Gloss finishes are right on-trend for contemporary living spaces and this works perfectly with the need to improve the flow of energy. A kitchen with gloss red units is an optimum choice and severely stylish. Balance it out with some water energy to stop it becoming too energised – a touch of black should do the trick.
Textiles On Fire – Although not meant in the literal sense, fire coloured textiles are a quick update for any room of the house. Need more passion in the bedroom? Try a new red bedding set – or better still, a plush purple bedding set that can also create calm when you need to relax and sleep. Reupholster dining chairs with a beautiful red or orange fabric and a shot of red in sofa cushions will also create balance and style. Plain roller blinds in a colour that represents fire, can be used to great effect as the lack of pattern accentuates the clean lines of its form and allows for a clear route for the upward flow of fire energy.
