A Brief Look At Feng Shui 4 – Element Of Wood

The Feng Shui element of wood has the quality of growth and progress, but too much of this element can make one impatient and lacking in compassion. As with all elements, the wood element should be brought in subtly and with good thought. Wood is resembled by the colour green and brown; its shape comes in the form of tall and slim objects – as you would expect. The most obvious décor pieces would be to bring some of nature within – potted green plants and fresh flower arrangements. The energy from wood is often needed in bathrooms to balance out the energy of water.

Plants – Plants have one of the best links with the element of wood and are welcoming in all rooms of the home. The taller your plant is, the more wood energy it will deliver. You might look to displaying fresh herbs in the kitchen which work just as well.

Wooden Sculpture – Wooden sculptures are another great way to bring in the wood element without having too much greenery. The idea would be to have them tall and slim to resemble a tree form. In the bedroom, a four poster bed made from wood will have a similar effect. Adding a canopy made from green curtain fabric will finish the look off perfectly.

Paint Colours – Greens and browns are the colours that represent the wood element and help to enhance its energy. When choosing green paints, choose those that are more natural such as a forest green or mint green. Why not use a fresh green in the lounge or office as a feature wall; a chocolate brown will look gorgeous for dining rooms or use it with a gloss finish to update tired looking furniture.

Art And Photography – Dress up the walls of your office space with botanical themed artwork or photography. Take things further by choosing your prints with the colours of wood and place them in wooden frames.

Window Treatments – Another great ides for bringing the element of wood into the home is by using attractive wooden blinds or even bamboo blinds for your window treatments. They look brilliant in nature themed bathrooms, in kitchens to compliment wooden units or in bedrooms where they can be paired with green pencil pleat curtains hung from wooden curtain poles.

Wallpaper – You may also experiment with botanical print wallpaper in green to bring in the element of wood. Either add wallpaper to a feature wall or use pieces of wallpaper in wooden frames to dress up a wall in style. The same idea can be achieved with botanical green or brown fabrics in frames or to dress up the shade of a tall floor lamp.
