Living Room Interior Design Ideas 3: Add Colour

Bring a new and refreshing look to your living room simple by changing the colour. Rather the opt for the same ‘magnolia’ take a look at how natural light enters your living room and use this to intensify the light. You can balance the intensity of light by bringing in accent colours if you have a south facing window, while north facing windows will not provide as much intensity to the light so you’ll have to use colour to balance the difference.

Just because you’re adding colour doesn’t mean you have to go overboard an have every wall and surface coloured. Leonardo Da Vinci said: “The first of all single colours is white … We shall set down white for the representative of light, without which no colour can be seen; yellow for the earth; green for water; blue for air; red for fire; and black for total darkness.” – so you can use white to create a blank canvass onto which you can add colour to create stunning living rooms in a variety of interior design styles.

You don’t have to use brilliant white, as softer whites are easier on the eye and more visually comforting. The accent colours you choose can be those which are deemed to be ‘this year’s’ if you like keeping up with the latest design trends, or simply colours which you love – those which make you feel good will of course be the best options.

Harness the availability of light your living room has by using lightweight curtains, voiles are ideal. Sheer fabrics will also bring a gentle softness to the room making it look and feel homely. To create a continuous ‘wall’ of curtain fabric use unobtrusive curtain tracks as these will blend behind the fabric and become almost invisible when the curtains are drawn at night and hardly show against white walls during the day time. Look for ready made curtains which have a band of colour at the bottom as this will give the illusion of a dado rail running along the wall, as well as preventing the curtains from looking too clinical.

Harrison Drape have a wide selection of curtain tracks and curtain track spare parts to suit large windows, including easy glide and corded tracks either of which making opening and closing the curtains effortless.

Pay attention to the placement of your windows and your window dressing and you’ll be able to change the whole dynamics of your living room.
