Living Room Interior Design Ideas 4: Be Bold

February 12, 2012 by admin · Leave a Comment

Today we have a post geared towards those of you who like to be bold! Using rich dark colours this colour scheme is an up-dated version of the timeless colour combinations of browns and beige. These two colours coordinate so well together that we see them cropping up year after year with little touches given to the choice of fabrics and patterns along with trendy names such a ‘mocha’ and café au lait to make them slightly different and more exciting.

As it’s a timeless classic these colours are a ’safe bet’ for those who believe they don’t have any creative flair or aren’t any good at selecting colour combinations! This year however, interior designs are daring us to be bold with our colour choices and patterns. Bold doesn’t necessarily mean loud and garish, as such dark brown remains on-trend – what they do mean is add a new dimension to your living room by the use of soft furnishings and soft furnishing techniques that you aren’t used to. For example having roller blinds and one large voluminous curtain which is deliberately too long so that it kisses the top of your flooring seductively at your patio door or largest window.

The idea of blinds and curtain combinations isn’t new either, yet if you change the colours to the darkest chocolate brown – verging on black – rather than the traditional lighter colour the whole dynamics of your living room will change. Using contrasting beige curtains with a sheen to the fabric will lighten up the window space gracefully. Hang these trendy eyelet curtains from chrome polished metal curtain poles and use the poles as a link to your other accessories – for example a steel framed coffee table or polished chrome planters.

Don’t shy away from trying new accessories or soft furnishings. Rather than the usual central light and pendant shade opt for a modern chandelier in black to coordinate with the dark blinds.

Geometric patterns always make a bold statement so they are ideal for rugs and sofa cushions. Keep within the colour scheme and you won’t go far wrong. The great advantage to this style and colour choices is that it suits both genders – strong and bold showing the masculine side, while the chandeliers and cushions add touches of femininity even though the colours lean towards masculine traits – a touch of modern Ying & Yang!
