We complete this living room mini-series and suggest you be daring! Make 2012 the year for change and liven up your living room with colour schemes which take you out of your comfort zone. You’ll be glad when you see the stunning end results!

There are so many colour combinations open to you sometimes it can be hard to know where to start! The starting point is to choose colours which you love, after all you’ve got to live with them 24/7 so there’s little point in choosing colours that make you cringe every time you walk into your living room.
Think sensibly and opt for bright colours which compliment each other – but not in a boring and staid way. Purple in one of this year’s on-trend colours so you could use this as your first colour choice. You can then opt for turquoise or even orangey kumquat if you want to include this year’s official Pantonne colour of Tangerine Tango.
Rather than you normal window dressing be daring and swap it for something new to you. A combination of curtains and blinds make a pleasing change and will enable you to make a real feature of your windows. It’s up to you whether you have purple Roman blinds and orange or turquoise curtains or vice-versa.
You can also be daring by adding bold patterns to either the blinds or the curtains – unless you’re feeling really brave I suggest that you keep either the curtains or the blinds plain so that you don’t have too much of a visual explosion ans this can be difficult to live with!
Make the two different window dressing two completely different textures as well. For example your blinds could be made from sheer lightweight fabric while the curtains can be made from a medium to heavy weight fabric. You choice as to which has which may be dependent on whether you have a privacy problem. If you do then your choice of blinds may vary to accommodate this.
Sheer blinds look stunning but won’t stop prying eyes from seeing inside your living room – if you’re going to be daring you could thrown caution to the wind, however, don’t forget that if passers-by can see inside your home the more unscrupulous opportunist thieves may also take a fancy to your possessions – so weigh-up the advantages and disadvantages before you make your final decision as to which window dressing your plump for.
